Evaluation question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?
Make your own mind maps with Mindomo.
Evaluation question 3. - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A good possible mainstream distributor for our film would be 'Columbia pictures.' I think this would be a good distributor, as they have had experience distributing popular thrillers that are similar to our film, for example 'Secret window.' The positives of this company is that it is well know and has been running for many years, so we know that it is successful. As well as this, it would give our product a good budget for our film easily. Other work they have done include 'Angels & demons' and '2012.' These films both took off well and are both on the edge of your seat films and aim to make the audience think - which is similar to what our film is wanting to achieve. However the downfalls of this company are that in the 40's or 50's the company was still trying to expand and it distributed some films that didn't do so well such as 'Emergency wedding' (1950) and 'Lucky legs' (1942). The audience of Columbia Pictures films will most likely expect big things from this company as they distribute mainstream films, some of the most popular ones being 'Spider man' (2002) and 'Casino royal' (2006). Because of the wide variety of films it distributes, the audience will be different, so they won't only distribute a film according to what certain people like. This is a positive as our film could be easily distributed to a wider audience. However the negatives of this company distributing our film would be that it is situated in America. This would cost our movie extra to be distributed by a company further away. Also the end product of our film might not be what we were hoping to achieve in the first place. Because Columbia Pictures would be distributing our film, it might have had to be changed according to the way they want it, for example it could have a different plot or ending. On the whole though, this company would be a good distributor as it would be aimed at a good audience and it would allow our film to have a good budget for costumes and make-up which is a vital part in our film. The audience of our film would be expecting great things. From previous films such as 'Secret window,' they would want CGI and special effects. This would put more pressure on us for the film.
Some good possible independent film distributors for our film could be 'StudioCanal UK,' or 'Warp films.' StudioCanal is only a distributing company, but Warp is a producing and distributing company - both for independent films. They are both subsidiary's of conglomerates, which has positives and negatives concerning the audience and the budgets. Firstly, StudioCanal, has helped distribute many well known films including 'Four lions' (2010) and 'Submarine' (2010). The experience they have had with thriller films were a variety of successes and downfalls. 'Kill list' (2011) was a success for StudioCanal but the short thriller 'Rubber Johnny' (2005), was a bit of a downfall for the company. Because their audience is smaller compared to a mainstream distributor, it will cost them more money if the film receives negative feedback. However, because they are both only small companies, they can produce and distribute films how they like, unlike mainstream films that must be distributed and produced how the companies tell them. Warp has also had experience in distributing thriller films, for example 'Exhibit A' (2009) had high expectations but negative feedback. This is not good for the company or if they distributed our film as the audience may not be interested in thrillers. Some other negatives to these companies distributing our film would be that they wouldn't have as much money compared to mainstream companies. The budget for our film would be smaller and this might effect the make up used and the costumes as well as the cinematography and editing, which is all really important. However, the positives for if either company distributed our film would be that they are local, and easier to contact and get to compared to most of the mainstream companies that are situated in America such as 'Warner Brothers' for example. One of these companies would be more idealistic compared to a mainstream one due to the fact of where we are situated and the age we are. The target audience for our film would expect lesser than a mainstream audience would expect. From previous films, they would expect far less special effects and CGI, which might make our film look less developed or scary. Nevertheless, I believe that an independent company to distribute our film would be a benefit as it is local and we would be able to leave it exactly how we want it.

The use of make up in our project - for the iconography of the thriller genre
NURSE -
This was the make up used for the nurse in Summer's delusions. The aim was to make her look scary and like she was in pain. We did this also for the iconography of the product. We did research into thrillers and horrors and the make up used - in films such as 'the silence of the lambs.'
TOM -
This is the make up used for Tom who is Summer's boyfriend. We wanted to make him look terrifying and like he's from a nightmare. The use of the blood dripping from his eyes is a good iconography for thriller film. With the use of the bruising used, it really looks like he committed suicide in a traffic accident.

The errors we made during filming
When we did our first filming of Delusion, afterwards we noticed that when we panned across, it was jumpy and didn't look good. So we decided to film it again in a different location and on a day were we planned around the weather so that it wouldn't rain.
After we filmed the second lot of filming, we realised that we hadn't used a wide variety of shots - mainly establishing shots and pans. As well as this we had recorded over some vital footage! After a while we realised that we couldn't get the footage back. After he second lot of filming, there was only one scene (which was the scene in Summer's bedroom) that was fit to use in our product.
We decided to film once again. This time we knew to be careful and to not film over previous footage. The weather was dull but we used it to our advantage as it helped create the mood of the product - as it was a thriller. We used a lot more shots in the third lot of filming. We understood that we could not just use establishing and wide shots, so this time we included close ups and over the shoulder shots.

Treatment 2
Film title - Delusion
Length of introduction - 2 minutes
Chosen distributer - Columbia
The certificate will be a 15. The type of audience we are trying to attract, will be people over the age of 15 who like suspense and psychological thrillers. We would like to include characters of all ages, so that we could have a wider audience. It will be set in england so will most likely attract a British audience. However, because of our chosen distributor, (Columbia is American) we think this would help in making our film appeal to a wider/more global audience.
Opening scene:
Summer is sat in a psychiatrists room talking about how she 'saw him again.' She has a memory of her sat in a park and then is chased by someone. OVER EXPOSED LIGHTING
Title sequence - The words are white then turn red
Next scene - Her boyfriend jumps off a bridge and commits suicide. Summer wakes up screaming, she gets her laptop and looks at a picture of her and her boyfriend. She has a memory of them in a park having fun and being in love. Then she sees a nurse (bloody), she turns to her boyfriend and he is covered in blood... BLACK SCREEN

Treatment 1
Treatment
Delusion
Length of film is 2 hours
Our chosen distributor is: Columbia
The certificate is a 15 and the type of audience we are trying to attract is people over the age of 15 who like suspense and thrillers. We want to make the characters personable to all ages. So that everyone is able to watch the film not just teenagers. Been set in england it will probably attract an british audience. But due to our chosen distributor been american we think this would help in making our feel appeal to a wider more global audience.
Beginning:
It will start where Summer is in a Psychiatrist's room telling them that "she saw him again" Then it cuts to her being chased by someone in a park (could be nurse or boyfriend). Then scream. Title sequence.
Middle:
Suicide scene. (Medium shot from behind boyfriend on a bridge. Close up of him holding onto rail, blacks out. Traffic sound effects.)
(In her home, night time.) Cuts to Summer at home on her laptop, looking at pictures of her and her boyfriend. We go into the image in her mind. The image becomes her memory, it's a sunny day with her boyfriend, she turns around and sees the nurse and snaps back to reality. Once she's back she goes into her bathroom to get her pills out of the cupboard behind the mirror. She closes her mirror and sees her boyfriend. She drops the pills (close up of pills dropping to floor in slow motion - can hear them drop). Pan across (maybe left or right) to door and stop. She sees the nurse stood in the doorway. Se puts her finger on her lips, says "shhh..." then turns the light off.
End:
It's night time, in her home. The door bell rings, don't see who rings. Summer opens the door, no one is there. She closes the door, turn round and sees the nurse. Panics. She grabs something off the side and goes to attack the nurse. Summer is sedated. Blacks out. Wakes up in mental institute. Cut to eyes opening looking around. Looks across to box with tablets in that say schizophrenia on it.
Yellow filter - to make the flashback seem a bit happier. As a pose to the rest of the film been quite dark and Eire
Canted angle shot - to create distortion and confusion for the audience.

Research into the effects of the film
In our film delusion we would like to use a yellow (warm) filter to give the memory scene in our film a completely different feel to the rest of the film as it is the only time when both Tom and Summer are happy.
In the film Amelie they use filters to give the film a warm feel. This image is of a shop in the film Amelie. With the filter it makes the shop look more intriguing and interesting.

Locations
park road. we are going to be using Elisha's house which is based on park road for the bedroom scenes in the film.

Police Station park- we are going to use this park as it is a bit creepy and its accessible to use. it will be for the part of the film where someone (the nurse) is following summer. Its is also where she sees her dead boyfriend.
In our first lot of filming we used this park, but because the camera was jumpy, and the weather unsuitable we decided to re-film in a LOCH PARK.
Suicide bridge- the suicide bridge in barnsley has earned its name as it is where a lot of people have committed suicide. We want our film to be as realistic as possible so this is where the suicide in our film is going to take place.
Barnsley College Medical Room- we would like to use the medical room in barnsley college as our therapist room. To make our film more realistic.
Cannon Hall- we haven't decided whether we are going to film the memory scene in the film as we would like the mood to show how happy the characters are in this section of the film as it is the only part of the film that has a completely different fell. So we want to make sure that it is perfect.

Locke Park- is the other place that we are considering to use as the location of the memory scene and also the park bench scene.
Character profile of the NURSE
Character Profile
Name: Susan
Date of birth:24/11/1974
Occupation: Nurse in a mental home
Height:
Eye colour: Blue
Hair colour: Brown
Life: not married, 3 children

personality( scary nurse): chilling, follower, horrifying, creepy, malicious
personality (none scary nurse): caring, kind, brave, curious,
In our film delusion the nurse is what summer is seeing (hallucinating) and even though summer believes that the nurse is coming for her, she is just really a figure of her imagination. However the nurse is real but she is just trying to do her job of looking after summer.
